My Home Away From Home...OFFICE!

My book shelves are full!
The goal this year is to work in my office more. Many times, I live in the principal's office (not for bad reasons). Although, I love working with my principal I don't get a lot of my own projects done. I love using my space and bringing students into my colorful world. This summer, I changed up my office to better fit my needs and I'm happy with the results. It seems that I'm filling my empty spaces (which isn't a lot). Most counselors are in small office or closets. My space is big enough for me and my counseling items.  I love seeing the eyes of the kids when they come into my office for the first time (their eyes get huge). I hold my small groups, one-on-one meetings, and meet with parents in my fun space. A couple of times I don't have students in my office is for guidance lessons (too small) and when I have to deal with discipline. I explain to students that my room is for students making good choices.

Introducing the School Counselor

'Whoo Can Help You'

I created a fun bulletin board for the beginning of the year! I had lots of help making the owl, tree branches, and leaves. Thank you Beth Bultemeier!!! I wanted to share because it's too cute not to.  I had this up for Back to School Night for students and parents to see.

Most 4th and 5th graders knew who I was but our 3rd graders were brand new to the building. I did a lesson in all 3rd grade classrooms. During the lesson, I introduced myself and my duties at New Haven Intermediate. I read the book "Mrs. Joyce gives the best high-fives". Students shared with me what their counselor at their last school did.  I talked with students about items I will teach them about this year. Last part of the lesson was showing the 3rd graders my special forms. I have a "I need to see the counselor form" and a bullying form. I explained the appropriate use of forms. It's been a great start of the year and I'm so excited to get back into classrooms!!!

New Adventure...

Book Club

I received a WONDERFUL gift today! My fabulous librarian delivered books at my door. She donated 5 sets of chapter books. I expressed earlier in the year how I wanted to start a book club. Our school had extra scholastic dollars and I was rewarded with BOOKS. I'm hoping to start the group in October and I'm excited to do something different with kids.

 I will update soon!!!

BE...

helpful, silly, honest, patient...

Woodlan Primary
New Haven Intermediate (1st year)

I've used this bulletin board each year! It's simple, to the point, and very colorful! I'm looking to find the link and share with everyone. I do remember it was a free download!

THINK

Is it...

I created this bulletin board for the start of the school year. It goes along with New Haven Intermediate's PBIS (Positive, Behavior, Interventions, and Supports) message. Our three statements we say each day...We are respectful, responsible, and engaged...we do our Bulldog best. At the end of the last school year, it was brought to my attention how many students have Facebook and the mean and inappropriate things they put on their pages or other student's pages. Most of the students didn't even bother to block their page for people to see (giving anyone the opportunity to see their posts). Unfortunately, it brought some drama into the school and interfered with the education of some students. I'm planning to focus on 5th grade this year and discuss with them the importance of smart posts.  Fingers crossed, that I can sway some of them to be cautious of what they put up for the world to see and NO more Facebook drama.
